Improve professional and personal relationships

This assessed course provides an introduction to some of the knowledge, attitudes and skills related to counselling. The course will not make you into a counsellor, but will enable you to begin to develop a basic ability to listen and respond sensitively and effectively to the emotional needs of others. Growth in personal self-awareness is essential to this process, and all counselling courses aim to facilitate this. Please note that the tutors are experienced in supporting you in this. However, if you are facing a high level of emotional distress at present, it is recommended that you delay the start of the course until you have achieved a level of emotional stability.

The course will introduce you to some different counselling theories and to counselling processes. It will explore what is and what is not counselling, where it’s use is appropriate and the basic ethics and responsibilities involved.  The course aims to help you begin to apply your learning to your own situations. The course provides many skills that can be transferred to a variety of professions and careers.

It also gave me the opportunity to reflect on myself, my personality traits and things that I find triggering. I feel that I’ve learned a lot about myself and my relationships with others."

SL

"The layout of the course covered things that are most relevant in my opinion who is learning counselling skills but can relay it to my supporting role in my day job. It made be mindful of how my approach to individuals is paramount to gaining their trust and building a rapport with them.I enjoyed the company of my fellow students we were very supportive to each other . I found the Tutor Helen to be a guiding inspirational person who was professional and gentle with us and led us to each session with a calming spirit "

BM

"I’ve really enjoyed the course, Helen has been a great tutor, very supportive and informative. She has also tried to keep it fun as well as informative. The group have been great, and its been lovely getting to know a new group people.
I think the course itself is pitched at the right level for novices, as it explains everything clearly, but gives an introduction to the more in depth side of the profession"

HU

"I think it was a really comprehensive introduction to counselling and it will help having this knowledge going into the Level 2 Certificate.
Helen has been an amazing tutor, although the tone of the sessions can be serious there have also been light-hearted moments that helped us bond as a group and this was down to Helen and the way she manged the group dynamics."
